These images were made on an area of ancient forest heathland which was eventually turned over to farming and agriculture. The area is now going to be a combination of two massive housing estates, new dwellings, communities and so on. What is believed to be part of an ancient path still runs between the two which should remain generally undisturbed and will also allow access to the countryside for both of the new estates, 'Crown Gardens' and the ironically named 'The Oaks' (there are no oak trees). Observing directly from the ancient path is interesting. Earlier in the development one had to look through the trees and hedges which border each side of the path to see the initial groundwork and foundations being laid, but the new buildings are now seen rising above. 'Warning' and 'Keep Out' signs are obviously placed, but it was with both delight and sadness that I observed a Kestrel, hovering in a fixed position whilst looking down and surveying its hunting ground being replaced by concrete, tarmac and streetlights. It will need to look elsewhere in future and it should be fine if they can all nest a little further south. Mr Reynard and family may prefer to stay put, the new buildings might just provide an advantage.
